Reading

At Chilton Primary School, all children will be fluent, confident and enthusiastic readers. We believe that the teaching of reading is vital to help children understand and appreciate the world around them and prepare them for life beyond the classroom. Our reading curriculum will teach the essential skills of reading through our daily phonics lessons, guided reading and the high-quality texts that are read to every child each day. Through our reading curriculum, children will be exposed to a range of genres, cultures and experiences as well as having a lifelong love for reading.

We use a Systematic Synthetic Phonics programme called Rocket Phonics to teach reading at Chilton Primary School. Please click on the links below to find out more.
