Ash Class Mixed Year 1/2

Welcome to Ash Class!

We are a class of 30 kind and enthusiastic learners. Our teacher is Miss De Vries and we are supported by Miss Kerry and Mrs Vincent.

Term 3- Who Should Be Remembered?

Welcome back to Term 3. We hope you had an enjoyable break and Happy New Year!

This term we will explore ‘Who Should Be Remembered?’. This will be a history-based topic where we will learn about 3 inspirational nurses: Florence Nightingale, Mary Seacole and Edith Cavell. We will be finding out about their lives and what they achieved. We will compare them and use the statue outside of St Thomas’ Hospital, London, to answer our question of who deserves to be remembered. We look forward to kicking this topic off this a themed day on Friday 10th January. Don’t forget that children are invited to dress up as nurses or injured soldiers.

Term 3 Timetable. This is subject to change

Term 2- Do Stories Shape What We Think?

This term we will explore ‘Do Stories Shape What We Think?’. This will be  a literacy based topic around Fairy Tales. In this term we will explore traditional tales and traditional tales from other cultures. We will talk about the villains and common themes and lessons in these tales. We will then turn the Fairy Tales on their heads by reading tales where the villain isn’t always who we think it is. We will use this knowledge to answer our question and challenge perceptions we have.

Term 2 Timetable- This is subject to change as some foundation subjects will be taught in blocks throughout the term.

Term 1- Are We All Connected?

We begin with asking ‘Are We All Connected?’. This is a Geography based topic where we will learn what a continent and ocean is.
