Term Five - Where do things come from?

In our geography lessons this term, we will be looking at trade. From imports and exports to ethical trading practices we will consider how we can be educated and responsible consumers through looking at the impact of global trading on the environment and those involved in the manufacturing and production process.

Term Four

Whose job is it to care for our planet?

Sophie's heart sank. "Whose job is it to care for our

planet?" she wondered aloud, her innocent voice

barely rising above the cacophony. As she gazed at

the chaos around her, a sense of urgency ignited

within. There had to be more she could do—after all,

this was her world, and it needed saving.

This term, Chestnut Class will be exploring the impact of using fossil fuels and non-renewable resources on our planet. We will explore the evidence of their impact and explore ways in which we can live and learn sustainably to ensure that the children of tomorrow have all resources they need. We will learn about the dangers tomorrow could hold, by studying the chilling Floodland by Marcus Sedgewick and learn about successful sustainable cities such as Curitiba, in Brazil and Copenhagen, in Denmark to make recommendations for our local cities

Term Three - The kingdom of Benin.

I frowned, processing their words. How could they 'belong' to us when we hadn’t created them? When it was not our history told by each delicate detail? These bronzes didn’t reflect our history; they whispered of another world, rich in culture and pride.

As I stood before these ancient treasures, I wondered: can we trust history when so many stories are left untold?

This term, we will ask, Can We Trust History?

We will explore The Kingdom of Benin, considering how we can accurately find out about this incredible civilisation using artefacts from the past.

We will learn about how Europe came to be linked to The Kingdom of Benin and whether accounts from Europeans of the time match with the evidence we have discovered.

Term Two – How Diverse are the Americas?

This term in our Geography lessons we will be exploring The Americas.

We will learn about their location on our planet and how this leads to a wide range of climates and physical geographical features throughout their landscapes. We will learn about the human geography of The Americas, considering the major exports of key countries and the natural resources and settlements in key locations. These will help us to consider how diverse The Americas really are.

Term One - What was important to the ancient Egyptians?

This term, we will be exploring the things that were important to the ancient Egyptians.

From Pharaohs to the Nile, we will investigate our enquiry question through a range of creative and practical activities. We will be visiting the Ashmolean Museum to become History Detectives this term and will use our understanding of what was important to ancient Egyptians to better understand their daily lives.
