Key Stage 1 (KS1) consists of 3 mixed year 1 and year 2 classes – Ash, Beech and Willow. All classes follow the same curriculum; see below for our latest topic and useful documents. Individual class timetables are in the links.
This term we will explore our question ‘Can Everyone Achieve Great Things?’ During this topic, we will be finding out about the lives of Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria. We will be looking at how these monarchs differed and what life was like during their time. We will find out more about what their achievements were during their reign and we will end our topic by debating which monarch’s achievements were greater in improving Great Britain.
In Science this term we start our topic on properties of materials. We will be observing the purpose of everyday materials and testing their suitability for certain products. We will also find out how some objects change shape when we bend, stretch and squash them.
In maths, we will start with addition and subtraction within 100. We will learn how to add and subtract 2 digit numbers. We will also be recapping shapes. We will identify 2D and 3D shapes and how many sides and vertices they have.
In DT we will be designing and making a moving book linked to the Queen’s Hat. Our focus in PSHE is Dreams and Goals. In music we are exploring pitch and tempo.
This term, our Geography topic will explore the question: “What makes Chilton a good place to live?” We will focus on our local area, learning that Chilton is a village and following simple trails in and around our school grounds. As part of our fieldwork, we will identify both human and physical features within our village.
