Term 5
This term we will be starting our new history topic which focusses on our local area study: Oxford Castle. We will be revolving our learning journey and discussions around the enquiry question: What does Oxford Castle tell us about the history of the local area? This will be an exciting topic for the children to understand more about the history of the local area through the story of the castle and why William the conqueror decided to build it before it was converted into Oxford Prison many years later. They will be discussing why it is still of interest to visitors and exploring how crime and punishment has changed within social history. We are very excited that we will be visiting Oxford Castle .This will be a great opportunity for the children to immerse themselves in this history topic!
Your child will have the opportunity to explore this topic through art, literacy and music. In addition to the topic work and daily mathematics lessons, there will be personal, social and health sessions, PE, RE, spelling, French, computing and science.
Term 4
This term we will be starting a new history topic which focuses on the Vikings and the Anglo Saxons. This will build on our previous learning of the Romans and we will be thinking about our time line in history and where this period of learning fits in. We will be finding out who were the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings and where did they come from? Looking at artefacts from Sutton Hoo and using other sources to find out about life during this time. We will also consider our local history linked to this and what role did Alfred the Great play in resisting the Vikings. We will end our topic with our exciting residential to Hooke Court where we will be applying all of our knowledge and finding out new information about the Vikings.

Term 3
This term we will be starting our new geography topic which focusses on Natural Resources. We will be revolving our learning journey and discussions around the enquiry question: Do we have the power to change the world? The children will be exploring the importance of natural resources in today’s world and how this can impact the planet’s future. We will be learning about how fossil fuels are used to produce energy, examples of renewable resources and ways to save and recycle water. We are linking this topic with our LKS2 performance ‘The Bee Musical’ which focusses on the important role bees play in our world.
Your child will have the opportunity to explore this topic through DT, literacy and music. In addition to the topic work and daily mathematics lessons, there will be personal, social and health sessions, PE, RE, spelling, French, computing and science.
Term 2
Our geography topic theme is focusing on a geographical study: Europe and our enquiry question is: ‘Are all countries in Europe the same?' We will be taking a trip around some of the countries within Europe, locating counties, capital cities and landmarks on maps. We will also be looking at the human and physical features of counties and finding out about the tallest mountains and longest rivers. If your child has visited any countries in Europe you could show them these places on a map.
Your child will have the opportunity to explore this topic through DT, Literacy and Music. In addition to the topic work and daily Mathematics lessons, there will be Personal, Social and Health sessions, PE, RE, Spelling, French, Computing and Science.
Term 1
This term our enquiry based question is based around the Romans: ‘What did the Romans do for Britain?’ We will be finding out about who were the Romans, what was Britain like before, during and after their invasion, key figures during this period of time including Boudica and Julius Caesar. We will also look at inventions by the Romans that have left a lasting impact on society today.
We will start the term with an exciting Roman day on Friday 6th September.
In addition to the topic work and daily Mathematics lessons, there will be Personal, Social and Health sessions, Science, PE, RE, Spelling, French, guided reading and computing. Year 3 will also learn to play the violins and Year 4 will have weekly music lessons.
