Volunteering

We welcome volunteers! There are a wide range of volunteer opportunities open to parents and the wider school community.

Reading volunteers

We welcome volunteers who would like to come in and listen to children read, usually in Key Stage 1. No experience necessary, but you would need to commit to a regular weekly slot. As you will be working directly with children, all reading volunteers must be DBS checked, provide the names of two referees and undertake safeguarding training. Please contact the school office for more information on office.2555@chilton.oxon.sch.uk.

Garden volunteers

Do you have green fingers, or just enjoy working outside? We have a 100ft school garden which needs lots of weeding and watering! Monthly weekend gardening sessions are held during spring and summer (advertised in the school newsletter). Alternatively, you are very welcome to come along and help out by arrangement.  Please email the school business manager via sbm.2555@chilton.oxon.sch.uk to discuss further.

Company volunteers

Do you work for a company that offers workplace volunteering? If so, we'd be very happy to host you and your colleagues. Previous volunteers have painted our after-school club, made and installed fences and helped tidy the school garden. Please email the school business manager via sbm.2555@chilton.oxon.sch.uk to discuss further.

Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

The PTA hosts events, such as the Christmas and summer fairs, for parents and children to raise money for the school. Volunteers are always very welcome. For example, you could help with advertising, set up an event, serve food or run a stand at a school fair. Please see the PTA page on our website or email chiltonoxonpta@gmail.com to find out more.

Governors

Governors are a voluntary body of people who guide and support the strategic direction of the school. They help set school objectives, are a source of challenge and support for the headteacher and monitor and evaluate the school. Within our governing body are three parent governors (elected by parents) and four co-opted governors (appointed by the governing body). When a vacancy arises, all parents have the opportunity to put themselves forward as a parent governor. However, if you have specific experience, for example, in education or finance, and would like to be considered as a co-opted governor, please email Tim Hart, our chair of governors, via chairofgovernors@chilton.oxon.sch.uk.
