Reception Curriculum Newsletter
Welcome back to school for the start of Term 4. We hope you had a restful half-term break. We will start this term with a whole school Science Week followed by Book Week. We will then start our new topic ‘Spring has Sprung!’ when we welcome the children back on Monday 8th March. There will be more information around our reopening from Mr Ahmed.
Week 1 – Science Week
We have really enjoyed this week’s investigations, including our whole school one where we have found out which biscuit is the best. Thank you for sharing your findings on Seesaw!
Week 2 – Book Week
Book week will be based around this beautiful picture book. The whole school are using this book to inspire many of the areas of our curriculum. We will be thinking about the character’s feelings, writing speech bubbles, exploring where polar bears live and looking at how we can take care of our environment. The whole school will be taking part in a series of art projects to create a whole school display.
Thursday 4th March is World Book Day and we are planning a whole host of exciting activities just for this day. There will be more information regarding this coming shortly. There will be some changes to our weekly timetable during this week, we will post the timetable on to Seesaw the Friday before.
We are very pleased to be welcoming everyone back on Monday 8th March. Our new topic we will be all about Spring! Please find an overview of our topic for each week below:
Week 3: Spring and Growing – Looking at the changes that we can see in Spring
Week 4: Jack and the Beanstalk
Week 5 and 6: Easter – Why do we celebrate Easter? How do we celebrate Easter?
Seesaw and Live Lessons
For the next two weeks all of our learning will continue on Seesaw and there will be a daily live lesson. It has been lovely to see the children every day on zoom and to see their hard work and engagement with the activities, we have been very impressed.
PE will be outside this term, they will need tracksuit bottoms and a hoody as well as shorts and a t-shirt. We will be unable to provide spare kit.
For the first two weeks of term, children who are in school will have their PE session on a Tuesday afternoon. Mr Bedwell will teach a live PE session for the children learning from home, we will include this session on our weekly timetable.
When the children return to school, Maple Class will have their PE session on a Tuesday morning and Oak Class on a Wednesday morning. On the appropriate day, please send your child to school dressed in their PE kit. They will change into their school uniform after the lesson.
Unfortunately, Forest School will not be running this term. We are hoping to re-start this later on in the year.
We will be assessing the children’s reading when they are back at school. We will provide more information on taking school books home in due course. In the meantime, please continue to use Bug Club along with the books that you have at home. There is as much value in the children listening to a story as there is in reading it themselves.
If at any time you need to contact us please feel free to email the class address below, telephone the office or send a message on Seesaw.
