Learning to live and living to learn

Autumn 2 - Sparkle, Shimmer and Shine

Reception Curriculum Newsletter

Term 2

Sparkle, Shimmer and Shine!

This term, Reception will be learning about light and how it is used in different ways. During this term the children will be investigating about light sources and what we need light for. We will also be finding out how light is an important and symbolic feature of many religious festivals and celebrations.

We need YOU!

This term we are learning about different faiths and special occassions. If you and your family are celebrating an important event this season (e.g. Diwali, Hannukah, Christmas, Thanks Giving) then please consider coming in to school and sharing some information with the children about it. Please come and speak to Mrs Grant, Mrs Akrigg or Miss Hammond if you think you could help!

On Thursday 12th and Friday 13th of December at 10am the Reception children will be performing their Nativity:

‘Higgledy Piggledy Nativity’.

All the children will be given an acting part and many of them will have words to learn. When the script is sent home, please support your child in learning their words off by heart. There will be more information about the Nativity over the next few weeks.

Supporting your child at home:

Daily reading of their schemed reading book sent home from school. Please remember to comment in their yellow reading diary when they have read the book to you. Remind the children that they should put their reading book in the coloured basket every morning.

WOW slips: Please remember to acknowledge your child’s achievements at home by filling in a WOW slip. These slips will be shared with the class and then displayed on the class Wow wall. There will be extra blank wow slips in a plastic wallet in the cloakroom.

The children will continue to go to Forest School in Term 2.
