Learn with passion to live with purpose
Term 2 - Sparkle, Shimmer and Shine!
This term, Reception will be learning about different celebrations and festivals. In particular, we will be thinking about the important role that “light” has to play in these occasions. We will also be finding out what a light source is and how shadows are created.
If you and your family celebrate one of the festivals that we will be learning about, we would love for you to share with us how you do so. Perhaps you could send in some photos for your child to share with us or we could arrange to video call you and learn more about how you and your family celebrate.
Please find an overview of our topic and maths learning each week below:

Nativity
This term we will be practising for our Christmas Nativity performance. The Nativity play will be performed by Oak, Maple and Seedlings. Every child has been given a role and we will inform you of these in the coming weeks. If your child has a speaking part we will also be sending a script home to practise with. We will give further details about the performance later in the term.
PE
The children will continue to have one taught session of PE on a Tuesday each week. We will also continue to have music and movement sessions during the week where they may need to change into PE kit. Please keep PE kits in school and we will send them home at the end of the term to be washed. Please also ensure your child has warmer PE clothes for outdoor PE sessions.
Supporting your child at home:
Daily reading: We will change reading books twice a week: on a Tuesday and Friday. Please ensure that books are ready to be swapped by always keeping them in your child’s book bag. Please date and comment in your child's reading book every time you read. We aim for the children to get into a routine of reading their books every night, putting them back in their book bags and placing them in the reading box when they get to school. This allows teaching staff to read with the children at school and swap the books on the necessary days. Please see separate email about reading at home guidance.
Ten Town: Every child has access to Ten Town online at home. Please use this website to support their early numeracy and numeral formation skills.
WOW slips: Please acknowledge your child’s achievements at home by filling in a WOW slip. These slips will be shared with the class and then displayed on the class WOW wall. We will send home some more WOW slips this term for you to use.
