Autumn 1 - Marvellous Me!

Term 1 - Marvellous Me!


This term, Reception will be learning about what makes them special and finding out about each other and their family. During this term the children will be focusing on their personal and social skills as they settle in to Reception life.


 Below shows the areas that will be covered in Literacy and Maths:


 Week 1: Marvellous Me / Ten Town characters

Week 2: My Marvellous Family and Friends / Ten Town characters

Week 3: My Body / Number counting and recognition

Week 4: My Hands / Number counting and recognition

Week 5: Listening / Number counting and recognition

Week 6: My Eyes / 2D shape

Week 7: Healthy Me / 2D shape




Maple Class (Mrs Akrigg): Thursday 9-10am

During Term 1, children in Maple class will be changing for PE from 8.45am to be ready for 9am. Please make sure they bring their PE kit in to the classroom as they enter to save time.  

Oak Class (Mrs Grant): Thursday 10-11am

Please make sure the children have their PE kits in school at all times.

(Be aware that the children may need their PE kits at different times in the week so please leave their bag on their peg for the whole week.




WOW slips: We will be introducing ‘Wow slips’ to the children by the end of the week. Each child will bring home 5 slips to use throughout the term. Please tell us something that they have achieved at home and then it can be shared with the class on a Friday and displayed. There will be extra blank wow slips in a plastic wallet in the cloakroom for you to take home when needed.


Homework: The children will be given a homework folder and every Friday the Reception team will put in a new activity to support their learning at home.


Boogie Beats: The children in Reception will attend a Boogie Beats session once a week in the hall to develop their music and movement skills.  


Junk Modelling: If you have any clean boxes or packaging that could be used for junk modelling we would be very grateful if you could bring it in.


 Forest School / Outdoor Learning: This year the children will have the opportunity to visit Forest School or have an Outdoor Learning session every Tuesday. The sessions will begin from Tuesday 18th September.

 If your child is taking part in a Forest School session they must come to school in their Forest School clothes and have their school uniform packed in a bag to change in to (AM). If your child is taking part in an Outdoor Learning session they must have their Forest School clothes packed in a bag ready to change in to after lunch. (PM)


Reminder: Please remember that we are a nut free school.

(During this meeting you will gain more information about life in Reception/ reward systems / Forest School kit / homework etc.)

  • Wednesday 26th September – Healthy Eating Seminar 7.30pm
  • Thursday 4th October – 2.45pm  - Harvest Festival Assembly (Parents invited)
  • Tuesday 16th October - School Photograph Day
  • Wednesday 17th October – Curriculum Evening for Parents 7.30-9pm  
  • Friday 19th October 3.15pm - Last Day of Term 1
